Will my 500W power supply handle an ASUS STRIX R9 380X OC?

Solution
that's about a 175w card and a 95w cpu at stock speeds. throw in the rest of the system and you're looking at around 400w for system power. more if you have the cpu oc'ed. you only have that much on the 12v rail, which means it will be running at 100%. not a good diea especially for the lower quality cx psu you have.

in other words, no, it will not run the card. you'll need a new psu.

why not wait a few weeks and see what the 480 offers which should be more performance and less power draw.

The rest of the system should be less than that. Hard drives are about 10W, SSDs ~2W, RAM ~3W, motherboards ~25W, fans about 2W. Though upgrading isn't a bad idea.

many moons ago i settled on about 150w for "other" after the cpu and gpu. i know it is a high estimate for sure but helps keep me honest when adding up power needs and allows for multiple hdd's, optical drives and other random stuff people add in here and there. sort of a catch-all for whatever extra is in there :) even at 100w of extra, that psu is still pushed pretty hard. it may work but i'd not make any guarantees for how long.

Yeah I suppose so.
