Hyper 212 Evo x bracket bent!...

I installed the 212 Evo heatsink two nights ago and has since bent. During the installation, the x bracket screws were far from the mounting screws but, like other posts said, I just applyed lots of pressure to help them reach.

Why did it bend when it's supposed to be spring loaded?
And is there something I'm doing wrong which meant I had to apply all this pressure?

The spring loading applies pressure to the CPU contact.
As long as the heatsink has firm contact with the CPU and the thermal pad / paste is between them, it should be fine.

So should I just go with it and screw it in again despite the gap and force required.

I'm just worried because people say how they have cracked/warped motherboards from it being too tight

The screws just have to be firm. You don't screw them all the way down.
The mounting legs should bend a little, hence the "spring loading".

I'd definitely say it's 'firm'

Are the springs supposed to be this strong/resistant?
They don't seem to be moving with the bracket at all or absorbing any of the pressure...

I've screwed a Skythe CPU cooler down too much with a similar mounting and one of the screws broke. Just don't over tighten it.
