Hi I i am thinking about buying a 250gb SSD drive for my computer. I currently have a 1TB HDD drive that works great but i am looking to be able to use the SSD to have my pc boot up quicker and run some games that i put on it smoother. I have the Windows disk but i have heard that reinstalling the OS on the SSD can be troublesome. But then i have also heard that cloning the OS over to the SSD can be troublesome as well. If you could shed some light on this it would be most appreciated.

OK, so move a bunch of that static data off to the other drive.
For a successful cloning operation into a 250GB SSD, you need to get the actual used space of the C partition to below 200GB.

Once you have that C drive below 200GB, then we can talk about the cloning procedures.

Either can work well, if you do it properly.

How much current used space is on your C drive?
How much of that is doc/music/funny cat video/Steam games?
Do you have another drive, either internal or external?
Does it currently work to your satisfaction?

566gb of my c drive is being used. 512gb is everything else besides the OS. I potentially have another drive.

Well i haven't bought the SSD yet i am more of looking to see which way would be easiest before i buy to see if its worth the trouble. So in essence i would just move all my non OS files to an external drive. Delete them off the HDD and then clone the OS on the HDD to the SSD. Then i would delete the OS off the HDD and move the files from the external back onto the HDD?

Thats the basics, yes.
And by 'non OS files', this is just doc/music/video.
