Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: this week

Location of Build: Hawaii

Budget: 1100-1200 everything including monitor and shipping (amazon only way to really go with free shipping)

Overclocking: Maybe (very light overclocking...i.e pushing it up to 4 ghz max)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (depending on whether rx480 benchmarks well: if not go with a single gtx 1070)

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Gaming

Hey guys,

I'm having a little trouble finishing my gaming build. I mainly want to play bf4 and any future battlefield games. No COD games I hate them. Right now I'm building it for cs:go so I know it's already an overkill. My last build must have been about 6 years ago so I'm a bit dated. I already have the spec-02 case, i5 6600k processor, and the gs700 psu from my old comp. Any advice or changes are welcomed.

My main questions are...

1. Is the ram I chose suitable for possibly overclocking in the future (light over clock)? Or should I go with a 2666 mhz or 3000 mhz ram?

2. I'm assuming the brand is negligible but I'm having trouble also deciding between kingston hyper x and the g.skill ripjaws v series.

3. Is the motherboard an overkill and should step down to a cheaper motherboard? Or even a micro atx if I plan to use a single gtx 1070 card?

4. I did not put a video card yet since the rx480 is being released soon. I was planning on a gtx 970 for now but am waiting to see how the rx480 performs. What do you all recommend?

Hi,

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler has a max memory clearing of 37mm
Hyper-212-EVO-measurement-600.jpg

And I'm not sure about the memory height of the the Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133
But check this out on Kingston tech specs on their site, but I think it should be ok.
Otherwise it looks to me a very good build.

Best regards from Sweden

Thanks for the tech specs. If I plan to just use the 2 sticks of ram, couldn't I just put the stick into the slot that is farther from the evo and I shouldn't have to worry about clearance?

No.

Citat:

The four memory sockets are divided into two channels and each channel has two memory sockets as following:
Channel A: DDR4_2, DDR4_4
Channel B: DDR4_1, DDR4_3
Due to CPU limitations, read the following guidelines before installing the memory in Dual Channel mode.
1. Dual Channel mode cannot be enabled if only one memory module is installed.
2. When enabling Dual Channel mode with two or four memory modules, it is recommended that memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used and installed in the same colored sockets.

1) i would not expect 2133 ram to overclock much. i would pay a little more for faster ram (2400 at least, 3000 if you can afford it)
3) i don't think the board is overkill and is appropriate for your level of processor. it doesn't make sense to pair an expensive processor like the 6600k with a low end board.
4) i think the 970s are overpriced right now. can you live with the integrated graphics for a few weeks until you get a 480 or 1070?

I can wait and run the integrated. Not in a rush

Thanks for the specs
