My motherboard went out on me. So I'm gonna have to buy a new one. I really don't want to buy another processor since I can't afford another i5-4690K. I wanna know if anyone has actually done this. I've never heard anyone on youtube talk about upgrading their motherboard, without upgrading their cpu. Can you actually do this?

Solution
Sure. Do you have the original packing material the CPU came in? That will be the safest way to temporarily hold it while moving between motherboards.
Remove the cooler, then clean the CPU with 90% isopropyl alcohol before removing it from the socket. You could move it directly to the new motherboard or put it in the original packaging.

Yeah I have the original packaging. Thanks for the answer. I guess I'm just panicking. I really don't want all that money to go down the drain, ya know?

I installed the cpu on the original board. Shouldn't it be the same process, besides cleaning off the cpu and applying thermal paste?
