I am building a new PC (my first build), and I have found that my old 2009 Acer has a 320 GB HDD, and 2 Gb of RAM. Should I stay away from them or use them to my new one?

It's an old, faithful pet. Time to retire it with dignity for the job it's done and the years it's been useful. Parting it out or trying to save a few moments is just plain mean. Bury it in peace, say thank you, and walk away.

Nope, go right ahead and use those so long as they are working well. Do anything you can to save some money, because now you can put that cash into somewhere you'll notice it like a better GPU or CPU. Honestly, probably 3/4 of the computers I have ever built for myself have been mostly used/repurposed parts.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Not at all, any HDD will crash - maybe tomorrow or in 7 years from now you never know and reusing an old HDD from 2009 is the worst scenario.
That is out of the question as far I'm concerned.
A new HDD will cost less than you think and you will be better off.

Best regards from Sweden

Well maybe you're right. Might as well spend the extra $50 and get a better one.

The 2gb of RAM in there is not going to work in any modern motherboard (its likely DDR2, even if its DDR3, youre better off with newer, larger matched pairs) and a 320 gb hd that is now 7 years old is a bad idea, generally 5 years out of a consumer HDD is you got your moneys worth. I wouldn't trust my data on that. You can get a 1tb drive for literally $50 and 8gb of ram for less than $50. Toss it all.

I totally agree. :)

+1 for the memory is the wrong kind
+1 for don't trust a spinning hard drive that old. Losing data is a pain, and it's too small for a backup drive.

What parts are in the 2009 acer? Could become a plex server for video or music (you'd add a new, large drive). Could be donated.
