My grandparents are browsing around for a new Router. I've been looking around for something that will meet their standards, and improve their wireless internet speeds. Currently they are on a 75/75 package with Verizon. Their current Router the MI424WR is getting way out of style.
Since I tend to come over a lot, they want something that gives them the ability to play games with higher internet performance. I was looking at Dual Band routers specifically to separate the Gaming PC and Streaming devices onto the 5Ghz band, and lower devices like phones onto the 2.4Ghz band.

My grandfather is willing to spend what is truly worth the price for his Verizon Fios internet, but I would say his price range is from 100$-200$. I don't think he should be spending anymore than that.

I don't game and I wouldn't recommend gaming on WIFI, so no I can't. WIFI is not good for latency sensitive and jitter sensitive tasks.

I don't disagree that the Actiontec is less than optimum from WIFI perspective. I am a FIOS customer and have one -- with the WIFI turned off. I have an Asus router with the mode toggled to access point for my WIFI. I like Asus routers because they can be easily toggled to access points. An N900 or AC1200 to AC1900 would be all I would recommend.
