Wired Connection Constantly Switching between "Identifying" and "No Connection"?

Hi all,

On my main desktop PC I generally use a wired Ethernet connection and, for three years up until yesterday, my wired connection has been fine. I'm currently recovering from surgery so I haven't been on my desktop too much, but yesterday I sat down to use it and noticed the connection was constantly switching between "identifying" and "no connection." I tried restarting my PC, disabling/enabling the hardware, unplugging/plugging the cable, updating drivers, changing the Ethernet port, but nothing worked.

I came across this post, which helped a little, but the problem persists. The solution of switching the link speed stops the identifying/no connection cycle, but sticks it to identifying (until it gives up and leaves it unidentified). The troubleshooting tool can't find a solution as well. Even if it did work, I wouldn't want to limit my connection to 10 mbps, especially when everything was working normally until yesterday. Other wired connections in my house, as well as wireless, are still working fine. I'm really hoping someone here might be able to help.

Again, I'm not going to be able to be at my desktop too much so I apologize in advance if my replies are not exceptionally speedy.

Thanks!

The way my cable is set up that would be difficult, but I did test it on another computer (a laptop) to test the cable itself and it does work, so it isn't the cable.

All other times people had my problem that I've found, it's either been the link speed solution or just no solution at all. I'm thinking it could be my hardware, so I bought a new NIC. It will come tomorrow (thank god for Amazon Prime) but I don't know when I can install it. When I do I will update this thread.
