How to perform out-of-case POST test with Kraken X61?

I am currently waiting for my GTX 1080 to arrive before I can start actually building my system. I am a first time builder, thus, I am anxious about a few things. One of these things is the POST test. I'm going with an i5 6600K as my CPU (which doesn't come with a stock cooler). I bought a Kraken X61 to go along with the processor.

All the videos and guides that I checked used a stock Intel cooler for the POST test (even with the 6600K). So my question is: how can I perform the POST test outside the case with the X61? Do I need to mount the radiator into the case, install the pump into the CPU and then perform the test outside the case? Can the X61 even be used outside the case?

I'd rather not use a stock cooler since I don't have access to isopropyl alcohol and I'm not comfortable with removing thermal paste (I'm afraid I'll damage the CPU or the pins).

What the hell are you talking About? Just mount everything in your case as it is supposed to be mounted.

If you really want, you could jump start your psu with only your cooler attached to confirm it's working.

Why would you be afraid to remove thermal paste? You don't need to remove your cpu from the bracket to do that so you cant damage it nor can you damage the socket.
