Best PSU to fix GPU coil whine?

I have a GTX 780 video card and now with Windows 10 and Chrome I think the GPU is being used all the time.

This means the annoying coil whine sound is always in the background

I heard some people fixed it by replacing the power supply with a high quality one.

What power supply is recommended to fix this problem?

... then the coil whine was happening in the PSU, not GPU. the PSU provides DC (not AC) to the GPU, and coil whine is from transformers / chokes / coil vibrating. the AC ripple on the GPU-PSU connection is so small that it itself won't cause whine (the amplitude is too small to becoma audible) - unless the PSU is so amazingly awful and dead that it's shoving massive ripple all over the...

I don't think that there is a solid answer to what you are asking. You could get a better power supply but that doesn't mean that the coil whine will go away.

Anything tier one and two is considered high/ultra quality. But as i said there is no guarantee that this would work for you. Could you explain what u mean by the gpu being used all the time and generally what you wrote about your system. Are u sure that it is a coil whine noise the one you hear?

I second CBender - I'm no electronics expert, but what I have gathered about coil whine is it's component quality specific and PSU will not make a difference - some top tier PSUs themselves have coil whine as some people have experienced.

I actually changed the PSU from a bronze 80 to platinum 80 and I can report the coil whine noise has lowered significantly.

Your comparison to tires and windscreen wipers and video card and psu makes no sense at all.

The video card is directly connected to the power supply with 6 pin and 8 pin connectors, the quality of the power it gets can have a lot of affects on it's performance.

Do you know how electronics actually work? Do you know CPU and and video card have tiny circuits that require very high quality and pure electricity which is why you have so many coils and capacitors in charge of providing high quality power to the components?

Why make a comment about something you know nothing about?
