I have probably made threads regarding this topic before but I am getting a gaming rig custom built. I want to put my money into a good cpu, ram and gpu. Right now, I know I want 32gb ram and i'll be buying a 1070 graphics card. I want to game and I want to keep my doors open so I have the option to stream these games later on. I know for sure that I want an i7 processor but I am unsure of which to get.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Which ever you prefer, for streaming and gaming, the 5930k would make your streaming service (OBS) very happy, it would perform better with tasks like this, and if not for gaming, you can always make benefit of the extra 4 cores with other things. The 6700k is capable of streaming and gaming at the same time, so it depends on what you prefer. If I had the extra hundred or two, I would probably pick the 5930k, it performs a little better than the 5920k.

For gaming, you don't need an i7, but if you want it, the best one would be the i7-4790k. For gaming purposes, you won't EVER use 32GB of RAM, there's absolutely no reason for it, it's complete overkill. I suggest keeping the money from the extra 16GB and just using 16GB.

You still won't need that much RAM for streaming, if you really want some extra RAM, go for 24, but that's about as much as I'll recommend. 24 is still going overkill, for streaming, too, for streaming, a good CPU is what you want. Which is why I suggested the 4790k, it's good for both gaming and streaming.

Thanks for your help. I will consider the RAM thing.

What is the difference between the 4790k and the 6700k and the 5000's? I want the best thing seeing as I am already spending quite a bit.

The 4790k has a bit of an edge over the 6700k is gaming, not much though. You're interested in the 5k series? They're pretty expensive but will allow you to stream and play games better. The price difference from the 5960X, for example, is about $700, and it has 8-cores. it's mostly used for editing/rendering.

I should also mention that the 4790k uses DDR3 RAM, while the 6700k uses DDR4 RAM, if you want the newer one, get the 6700k.

My original pick was the 6700 but getting the 5000 series is only a 100-200 dollar difference. Which 5000 would I be picking?

If you want the biggest, best one out there, the 5960X, but the 5920K would be the much better choice here.

What do you think about the 5930? or should I go with the 6700 and save a few hundred?
