Okay I am currently planning on upgrading my Alienware x51 R2. I currently have an intel core i3-4150 and a GPU which is a geforce gtx 745 with 8gb ram... yet when I try playing games like H1Z1 In medium settings im getting 10-15 frames a second I have to play it in VERY low just to reach 30 frames... If anyone knows if theres a way to "unlock" my alienwares gaming power I would like to know. But thats not the questions my question is should I upgrade my cpu to an intel core I7 or a Geforce GTX 960... I know having both can damage my computer because of wattage power but I just need to know which upgrade will improve my gaming performance more dramatically

That's not really a gaming graphics card its more meant for low settings and low resoloutions, that cpu is isn't really meant for gaming either. Going for an I7 is a waste for gaming it won't show you any noticable gain over the I5. Your best bet would be going for an I5 and a gpu like a 1070 when the custom coolers become available.

Your CPU is still good for gaming, only drawback is the fact that it's a dual-core. Upgrade the GPU, while dual cores can limit you, it's not too much of a concern. I would look for the RX 480, which releases in about a week, it will work with your CPU quite well, outperforms the 960 in every way, and is only $200.

That's assuming it sips power as well. The Alienware X51 is one of those console form factor systems that has an external power brick to power the thing. Most only ship with a 220 Watt brick, with a 330 Watt brick being an optional extra or available on the higher end models. Given that this is a lower end X51, the OP probably has the 220 Watt brick, and that is going to really limit his GPU upgrade options. His GPU upgrade options without paying Dell $100 for the 330 Watt power brick are going to be the GTX 750Ti or one of the lower end AMD RX series cards that has a similar power draw to the 750Ti, whenever they come out.
