First of all, read this: http://

That was my initial problem. My friend's dad wanted to see if he could fix the laptop before i was going put a new hard drive in. It turns out that he put a new hard drive in. He gave it back to my friend who gave it back to me. Now whenever you turn the laptop on, it is stuck on the lenovo loading screen. it doesn't do a thing. i cant get to the bios or anything. so apparently, my friend's dad made the problem worse, but i don't know how. I haven't opened the laptop back up to see if the hard drive is even installed correctly, but even if there wasn't a hard drive in the computer, shouldn't i still be able to enter the bios? my friend's dad later said that he figured it out, so he gave my friend a usb with something on it and i gave the computer back to my friend. my friend's dad tried walking my friend through on the phone to try and fix it with the usb. but the problem is that you have to get to the bios first in order for the usb to work. and like i said before, i cant get to the bios because it just freezes on the lenovo loading screen. i dont know what is on the usb at all, and my friend doesn't know either. so i just want to know how i can get to the bios. any help is appreciated.

and if you think you have a fix for my initial problem, that would be great too!

What is on that usb is probbably a windows installation. However to start it up you need to head to bios and make the system boot from that usb (you need to have the usb connected to do this)
Most new hdd's will come with nothing on them or with FreeDOS.

So what I want you to do here is make a more precise description of how the boot up process goes for you (starting from pressing the power button including what you see)

Also want you to tell me the exact laptop model name and number (on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop)

Sorry it took a little while for me to respond. I've been a bit busy.

How the boot up process goes: I press the power button. Then a black screen comes up with the Lenovo logo on it. Then nothing happens. It just hangs there. I can't do a single thing from there. I can't get to the bios. The only thing I can do is shut down the laptop with the power button.

Model Name: Lenovo IdeaPad P500

Model Number: 20253

Just making sure, but did you read the: "First of all, read this: http://" at the top of my post?
