Debating on what to do with my current setup (cpu / motherboard related)

My primary pc at the moment is a mini-ITX based. The motherboard is an Asus P8H61-I R2.0 & the cpu is an i5-3330s. For the most part, everything seems to run fine.. except when I'm doing music production(Ableton Live). Occasionally the cpu usage will spike and has caused "issues" at times. I'm debating whether I should just upgrade it to the best cpu this motherboard can handle... which is an i7-3770K(goes for around $270 - $300 on ebay currently).

The other thought was to switch to an AMD based mini-ITX setup. Unfortunately, there's no AM3+ mini-ITX... best is FM2+. Looks like I can get the best FM2+ cpu(A10-7890K) for $164 on Newegg. As for motherboard, there's an MSI A68HI for $80 or an MSI A88XI for $100

So... the AMD setup with be a bit newer technology, but how would that compare with spending a bit more on the 3770K? If I had the means, I'd say booger all to each of these options. Only considering it as I'm on a budget at the moment.

I noticed the Xeon compatibility but hadn't bothered looking in to it. Not concerned with OC'ing & have a separate GPU anyway. That does seem like the best solution. thanks
