Hello everyone,

So I plan on making a new build with a GTX 1080 of some kind placed inside, while using a corsair 250D and I was wondering if you guys thought it was possible to get a graphics card this long into the 250D. The max gfx length supported is 290mm and the STRIX is 298mm, but I have read in a couple of other threads that the actual max GPU length is more like 300mm than 290mm. What do you guys think?

Solution

I couldnt find any official spec for the max gpu height by Corsair.
However, what I could find was this:

Here, users reported that the taller GTX 970 by Asus AND Msi both fit. They are about 140mm tall. Your Strix 1080 is 134mm tall.

Also, in the same forum, some have reported having been able to fit cards longer than 300mm, just like you said originally.

There's a trick to it, though, you need to remove the metal endplate of the card, and even then its not guaranteed...

I dont understand the dilemma here. If the card is near 300mm and the case can fit a card of max 290mm, why are you thinking about this?

It is clear the case wont fit the card you want.
Unless you want to cut some metal and do some handiwork yourself, its not going to happen.

Well other people have reported being able to fit gfx cards up to 310mm into the case so I wasn't sure. Do you know what the maximum gpu height is for the case?

based on this pic, i don't think gpu height is an issue . from a review of the case http://www.anandtech.com/show/7710/corsair-obsidian-250d-case-review/3

this pic shows how the card fits, so most of the depth of the case can be used for a gpu

the rest you are gonna have to believe the spec sheet or what people have posted wherever they post such things.

There's a trick to it, though, you need to remove the metal endplate of the card, and even then its not guaranteed to fit, since not all cards are the same. Some protrude a little more in the corners, while others have rounder shorter corners.

I dont know if that makes any sense to you, but basically the shroud of the cooler could be an issue, even if you remove the metal endplate of the card.

The only credible test would be to actually try and fit this specific card into this case.

It should be noted however, that the Strix GTX 1080 is 298mm according to Asus specs, and people have been able to fit cards a little over 300mm, such as the 305mm R9 290X by Sapphire.

Also, your card will be very cramped in there even if it will fit. Check out the pictures that others have posted in the links I gave you. It just...doesnt look good.
But I think with a little effort it might just barely fit.

Good luck, and sorry I wasnt of much help.
