How can I swap a 1 Tb HDD to 500gb SSD on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop

I want to upgrade my wife's fairly new Toshiba Laptop with a Crucial MX200 500Gb SSD. The problem is that the laptop has a 1Tb HDD and Acronis will not allow me to clone this disk.
I am sure someone out there has a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

On the assumption that you are using less than 500gb, I suggest buying a Samsung ssd.
They offer a free ssd migration app that will do the job.
Buy a USB to sata adapter to do the migration, then simply replace the 1tb drive with the new ssd.

The ssd migration app is a proprietary revision of clonix.
If you must use the crucial ssd, you can buy the clonix app and that might work.

You need the data on 1TB HDD to be less than 500GB SSD capacity.
Than you can use a cloning software that will resize the partitions to fit the SSD.
You can give EaseUS http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/clone-disk.htm
But it will work only if the data on source disk will fit the new disk.

Thank you both. I have tried easeUS & AOMEI backupper. The cloning completed with no errors but the SSD would not boot even though the Boot seq was set to HDD/SSD at number 1. TM
