Western Digital Blue/Green WD EZRZ Line Head Parking Issue

From what I've read, it sounds like the new Western Digital Blue/Green(merged) EZRZ line still has that annoying 8-second head park issue. Can anyone confirm this, and has anyone tried to use WDIDLE3 to set the time to 300 seconds or so? (I've heard on newer green lines that you shouldn't "disable" it, just set it to 300.)

I know the new lines technically aren't listed for WDIDLE3, but even the EZRX line I believe wasn't either, but the WDIDLE3 300 second command supposedly worked.

I had to do this for my WD20EARS, as I'd prefer not to have increased wear due to constant head parking, even as a storage drive.

Hey there, My Life Is Tech!

Indeed, we did merge our mainstream line for everyday computing to the WD Blue Family. Even though the WD Blue HDDs that are higher than 1 TB are in the 5,400-RPM class, there are a couple of articles in our knowledge base that explain which models can work with WDIDLE3. If you have a different HDD model, it MAY not work. The important thing to remember when working with the WDIDLE3 utility is to make sure that the HDD is not in a USB enclosure or attached to a RAID controller (or the BIOS set to RAID mode) because the software may not be able to properly recognize and update the drive.

Hope this helps. :) Best of luck!
