Wait and get radeon rx 480x2, or get a single gtx 1070?

In the uk, the price of the new nvidia 1070 card is 375 pounds for the cheapest non founders one. In less then ten days time. AMD will be releasing their amd radeon 480, which seems to be becnhmarking somewhere between a nvidia 970/980 card.

It's my first time building a pc, and I want the best bang for my buck. Should I shell out for a somewhat overpriced 1070 card, or wait less then ten days to see how the 480 stacks up and buy 2 of them? I've never had duel graphics cards before, so i'm unsure of how bad the cons outweigh the pros. If it helps, i'm planning to use the pc not only for gaming, but streaming games, recording them, and heavy duty work such as video editing, animation and more.

In case you are wondering, my current card is an out of date radeon R7 250.

MSI Gaming X is reported to cost 379.99. That'll most likely be the best deal for a 1070, and will cheaper than 480 Crossfire at 450 dollars. Whether it will perform better isn't entirely known yet, but it will probably be pretty even in terms of performance per dollar. The problem though is you have an AMD card instead of an NVIDIA which is more of a headache, and you have a Crossfire set up instead of a single GPU one which can also be a headache. You also lose the chance to run SLI obviously if you want to get another card down the line an max out 1440 and run 4k at high FPSes.

It won't hurt to wait, since the founder's edition is more expensive and less powerful than the aftermarket models of the 1070.

Typically a single more powerful GPU is better than 2 lesser GPUs. Additionally it lets you SLI later on if you decide you need more power but don't want to upgrade.

it's worth the wait simply because we don't know what a 480 can really do. can't make an intelligent decision with no facts to go on!!

plenty of pros and cons of multiple cards but i'm not gonna start yet another one of those conversations. 100+ threads here debating that and no need for yet another. personally i prefer a single card to avoid the cons of xfire/sli, but many prefer the pros and go wit it.

leaked stuff shows 2 x 480's at 1080 levels which is impressive but would cost more than a 1070 at over $250 each. wait and see what they can really do and then we can revisit the "what do i get" idea with some real world numbers to go by :)
