Symptoms

  • No signal to monitor .. black screen
1 long beep and 3 short beeps at the start up.
( 1 long beep 2 short beeps ) continuous when removed all ram modules

system

  • core i3 2120
    Asus P861-MLX3 R2.0
    no external graphics Card

I used this PC to edit Word files and watch YouTube videos and Movies.

I don't know why my iGPU died.

before problems started i used to have random shut downs and used to get " Asus Anti Surge Warnings" .

So i decided to replace my PSU but I was so lazy to do so in time. One day my PC crashed and when it rebooted itself i heard 1 long beep and 3 short beeps with no display ...

I installed Nvidia GeForce 210 external graphics card now I am to use my OS .

but I wonder why my Intel HD died ?/

Geforece 210 1 GB turbo cache is bogus compared to Intel HD 2000

Solution
It's very possible that the issue is the motherboard and not the iGPU. Getting those surge warnings should have let you know to do something immediately.

Check in the "Device Manager" to see if the iGPU still shows in the display devices. If it's gone, then it's likely damage to the CPU, if it's there, it's likely the motherboard output connections are damaged.

What power supply did you have and what do you have now?

The Asus Anti Surge Warning seems to point to a PSU issue. Do you still get that?

As for the beep code, it means VGA/GPU failure or not detected.

It would be great if you test this CPU on another system, or use test another CPU on yours. But given the age of the Sandy Bridge platform, I understand thats probably not an option.

In any case, it could just be that the igpu might be faulty, but I've never actually heard of this before.
Any chance you can stress test the system including the CPU in order to detect any anomalies?

Also, which PSU have you got?
