Hello guys

so i've built myself a pc here is the partlist, currently running windows 10 : https://www.digitec.ch/en/ShopList/Show?shopListId=BA0A...

As i stated in the title i've run furmark and memtest for multiple hours without a single problem, the GPU temperature peaking at 68°C.

Now whenever i try to play a game it crashes. There seems to be a correlation between how good the game looks and how fast it crashes, since i was able to play Path of Exile and Civ V for multiple hours before it crashes but things like darksouls 3 and MGSV crashes after 10-30 min, although they still don't use nearly as much power as furmark.

The "crash" is the signal to my monitor dieing while everything else still seems to be working, i can usually still hear the game in the background or the characteristic "da-dum" of the windows error message popups.

I've tried updating Bios, motherboard drivers, reinstalling graphicsdrivers even reinstalling windows.

I've also done this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrOKlh9fC9g

which stopped the nvlddmkm.sys messages from popping up in the event viewer so i guess it did something.

I have tried reducing the target power with asus GPU Tweak II to 60 percent to see if the problem was connected to my PSU not delivering enough power. All that did though was reduce performance (as expected) but didn't reduce the frequency of the crashes.

Windows Event viewer displays a "monitor.exe" and a lot of "dwm.exe" errors
here the evtx file with all the exact information https://files.fm/u/n8t5s882
The Kernel power error at the end is just me shutting down the pc. Also the line with access was blocked is not there on every crash.

I also posted this to gaming, realising afterwards that it might fit better here

I'm hoping somebody can shed some new light on this since i haven't been able to find anything by googling monitor.exe problems.
Cheers.

Edit:

after switching my system language to english, i was finally able to google the error messages for real so i figured out that monitor.exe stems from asus GPU tweak, so deinstalled it and am using nvidia inspector instead. now there are just no events at all around the time of the crash anymore, except for the critical kernel power error.

Edit:

i've tried downgrading to the 362.00 nvidia driver it still caused the "crash", after a soft reset the resolution was very bad and it was all in black and white. after another restart everything went back to normal.

Edit:

i let mini toolbox run here is what it spat out:

since my partlist seems to be broken here a write up:

Mobo: ASUS Maximus VIII Hero (LGA 1151, Intel Z170, ATX)
Graphicscard: ASUS GTX 970 STRIX (GM204, 4GB)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x, 8GB, DDR4-3000, DIMM 288)
PSU: Cooler Master GX 550W
CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K
CPU-Fan: Noctua NH-U9S
Case: Corsair Carbide 200R
SSD: Crucial BX100
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster BX2450L

Edit:

I just realized that i forgot to mention another symptom.
After the crash if i only do a soft reset (tap the power button), after the reboot the resolution is very low and everything is in black and white, so the normal picture just that it looks like somebody put a bad instagram filter over it. This problem doesn't pop up when i do a hard reset (keep pressing the power button until it shuts off).

Edit: It now also crashes during Stresstests which pretty much confirms that it is some sort of hardware problem, I'm suspecting either the PSU or the graphicscard itself. Anyone has another part that feels suspicious?
