My GPU is the MSI R9 390. My PSU is the EVGA Super Nova 750 G2. It is fully modular.

It has 4 cables marked VGA. I am using two. Actually one is plugged up the moment. The 6 pin connector. It also has one of those little +2 pin connectors for GPU's that have a 6 pin and 8 pin connection. My R9 390 has a 6 pin and 8 pin connection.

Now here is the problem. The other cable I am using also has one of those +2 connectors. Now the 8 pin connection on the GPU has a square pin hole as the top left pin on the connector.

The cable that goes to my PSU the pin that would go in the hole is more round at the bottom. It isn't completely square.

Now the GPU did come with a 6 pin to 8 pin converter looking thing. But the problem with that is the upper left pin hole has nothing in it. But the PSU cable does have a little metal tube for a pin inside the same pin hole.

Is it safe to use the PSU cable? Should I use the 6 pin to 8 pin converter thing?

I need some help here. lol

Use the cable that came with your PSU. Converters are never the best course of action.
The 390 draws alot of power. i would use both PCIE cables that came with the PSU, one for each connector on the GPU. This is not necessarily needed, as usiong just one calbe would probably work, but this puts my mind at ease about overheating connectors.

So the shape of the pin hole doesn't matter? The fact that there is something in the pin hole on the PSU cable and not in the converter doesn't matter either?

I just don't want to wreck my GPU.
