Hello guys,
i'd like to update my pc to enjoy some good games.
My conf is a10-5800k+hd6670 crossfirew; asus f2a85-m le and 8gb ram hyperx (ddr3 i think)

Now, from these parts i want to update my pc and create a second one to give my mom who need to browse the web, some skype and microsoft games.
And i can have a r9-280 from a friend for 100€ that i think is a good price.

So, what do you suggest me to do? I think that a10-5800k will bottleneck r9-280 so i could update cpu and give 5800k my mom or is cheaper to buy a new cpu and new mobo?

thx in advace for the help,
cheers.
Andrea
Maybe exist a good apu to crossfire the r9-280?

Solution

Yes, the motherboard will support an i5 6500, and a 500 watt PSU will be enough. :)

I'm confused - will you be buying new parts? For your mom, I would give her pretty much your entire PC right now, and sell the hd6670s.

Since it seems you are on a budget, I would suggest this build for yourself, using the money from the two HD6670s as well as out-of-pocket money. I would definitely buy the 280 - it is a great price for a card that can handle almost everything at 1080p.

Here's the rest of the build:

The A10 is not good for gaming, the cores are slow.
But the apu is perfect for mom. I would use a 120/240 gb ssd which will make it a very quick desktop pc.

For you and gaming, I3-6100 is a very good mid range cpu and the lga1151 motherboard has all sorts of upgrade potential.
dual gpu has issues as you no doubt have discovered. I would sell them and use the R9-280.

The R9 280 should work pretty good with the 5800K -even better with a little OC- but no dual-graphics.

Mom needs an SSD for fast boots and 'snappiness' -- a small low-watt SFF PC --- Intel Atom or AMD AM1 should work just great as an 'Internet Box' and for playing MS games.

hi guys,
thansk for your reply. I think i will suggest the i3 way :) and buy a new pc!
Just another question: does this mobo support i5? i may have an extra budget for i5-6600.
I already have ssd and a case for both pcs
With i5 500W power supply would still be good?

Put case fans in any empty fan spots on the case too. A ssd drive and then cloning the 500gig one to the new ssd would be good too and use the 500gig for a 2nd hdd.

The memory will still run at 1333. So the system ends up with 12gb of memory. 4gb will work, but more memory is faster because windows doesn't depend on virtual memory as much. (with virtual memory running on a ssd you could maybe skip this) It's cheap to install more memory.

So far games that say they need 6 to 8gb are running ok with 4gb and a ssd.

I have the wrong currency.

I am not sure if my build will work. Look for a similar used pc that includes windows 7 64 bit.

-RESEARCH THE COMPUTER, MAKE SURE IT HAS A OPEN PCIE-16 SLOT, WATCH OUT THERE ARE DUAL CORE I5'S.
It is possible to get a SFF like the HP and put the parts into a gaming case. (watch out because the smallest one uses a laptop style board, you want the one with a standard micro-atx board)
The i5-3470 ivybridge is also good. WATCH OUT FOR THE SLOWER "S", GET A QUAD CORE I5 THAT IS AT LEAST 3GHZ.

-If you got a SFF micro-atx computer, you could put the A10-5800K back into it.

Only the HP-compaq works, it has to be the 2nd smallest one, or the next smaller one from the tower.
Dell and IBM SFF pc's use a non standard board and wont work. (You can tell the card slots sit sideways in the case too) If it uses a power brick, it wont work.

guys, you have been awsome :)
i've just a last question for you.
I found a 280x for 120€ instead of 280 for 100€... does it worth it to spend 20€ more for upgrade? i3 is still good for this gpu?
thx a lot to everyone :)

Between those two GPUs, I would say pick whichever one you like the look of better. It isn't that much of a difference. Whichever one you pick, the i3 will be enough. :D
