Hello.

I wanna get my hands on the new AMD Radeon RX 480 in a few days. I have a few questions regarding what I will need when it comes to hardware or/and software.

  • ■ I have a i7 6700 3.40GHz and 8GB DDR4. Will the RX 480 be compatible with it?

    ■ Will I need a cooling system? I live in a tropical area and Im concerned about the heat.

    ■ What else would you recommend me getting to make the best of the RX480?

Thank you for the help.

Cheers,

Yaro.

Solution
The RX 480 is definitely compatible and will be a good pair. Heat probably won't be a concern as its lower power than its predecessors. Its worth trying it and seeing if there is a problem (very doubtful) before being concerned with cooling.

Sounds good.

Regarding the PSU: will I need anything out of the ordinary?
and another thing, is there anything I have to consider when it comes to monitors with this GPU?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I'm not that literate when it comes to gaming computers.

Cheers,

Its low power only needs 1 6pin connector which your PSU should have assuming you have any sort of decent one (what do you have?)

As for connectors it has HDMI and Displayport connectors, any good monitor should have at least HDMI, if not you can use an HDMI to DVI adaptor.

I'd have to check if it does have the connectors, cause I'm not sure what kind it is. (Buying a tower that includes the PSU)

Sorry I keep asking but, what about the motherboard? Do I need anything special?

I really appreciate your help, this is all new to me.

Cheers,

Nothing special with the motherboard, whatever you have will work.

As for the PSU if it came with your case its probably cheap/low quality, or are you saying you bought the computer already built and it came with the PSU. Either way it would be helpful if you can post the make/model.

Havent bought it yet, but yes it comes with it and you're probably right, it might be cheap/generic.

It might be a decent one though cause it comes with the i7 6700. Either way I'd have to check it.

I'm also concerned about the size of it and what if it doesn't fit inside the case.

Anyhow, once again, thank you man, appreciate the help.

Cheers,

Yaro.

Oh ok so you are buying a pre-built system? Do you have a link to it, or can you tell me the brand/model? Or is it from a shop that is custom building for you?

Well it's a bit more complicated than that. A friend of mine is selling me the pre-built case. Everything is new. Here's the info:

- i7 6700 3.40GHz socket 1151
- 8GB DDR4
- 1TB HDD

That's all I know. I haven't personally checked the set up and I absolutely will before buying it (If I do end up buying it).

I know this is messy and maybe should've given the whole information before asking, but I didn't think it'd be necessary (I'm a total newbie when it comes to this).

EDIT: Accidentally picked the last reply as the best answer. Damn it

Will definitely do.

I'm sorry for the dumb questions or not giving the whole information before hand:sarcastic:

What other specs besides the ones I gave you do I need?

Cheers,

Yaro.

just the case model is enough if the psu is installed with it. it'll be listed together, but as rogue said, generally these are low quality. you can still get the case and add in a new psu. they are not that expensive to get a quality unit.

if he is just selling both and they did come together, then the psu model itself is needed to ensure it'll do what you want.
