Memory Upgrade Recommendation Needed

I want to upgrade the memory on my custom made desktop. The motherboard is an ASUS M4A785-M.
The original specs on the computer are:

• Motherboard - ASUS M4A785-M Socket AM3 785G mATX
• CPU - AMD Athlon II X4 635 Propus Quad-Core 2.9GHz Socket AM3 95W processor
• Memory - Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2x2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
• Power Supply - Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500 Watt ATX Power Supply
• Hard Drive - 2TB Deskstar 7200RPM 3.5 SATA 3.0Gb/s
• DVD/CD Burner - Samsung SH-S222L 22x DVD+_RW DVD Burner with Lightscribe
• Operating System - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I would like to upgrade to 16GB of memory. I was given a recommendation by the local GeekSquad, they recommended Corsair XMS2 16GB (4x4GB) 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM PC2 6400 but it is out of stock at Newegg.

Can someone here recommend a compatible memory for my system including where to find it?

why do you need 16gb? that seems very unnecessary. what do you do with your machine? 8gb should be more than enough.

also, 2x4gb is optimal. running two sticks in dual channel is more efficient and gives slightly better performance than four sticks in double dual channel. but in your case, the cost of ddr2 ram is outrageous at this point. you are better adding 2 x 2gb for double dual channel.

Thanks for the response. Honestly, I was trying to upgrade to the max the motherboard would support to keep me from having to upgrade again in the future.

If I were to just upgrade to 8mb, are you suggesting adding 2 additional 2GB sticks to the existing memory for a total of 4 sticks of 2GB each? I read somewhere that mixing the chip brands causes problems. Would it be better to purchase 4 new 2GB sticks? Or even just 2 new 4GB sticks?
