Is the stock thermal paste good enough?

I recently bought the Intel 6500 CPU and it comes with a CPU cooler that has pre-applied thermal paste.

Is that good enough, or should I buy some additional thermal paste and apply it?
I don't plan to overclock.

Yeah, I doubt quality thermal paste will improve the temps of the stock intel cooler in any significant way.

This is a couple of years old, but what this shows is that there is very little difference between most thermal paste (either stock or after-market). So whatever comes with the heatsink should be fine, and use aftermarket when you have to replace the thermal paste.

It does dry out over time and you start having temperature issues, then it may be time to replace it, but it should last several years.
