So I have GTX 780 Ti and my power usage is about 30% when IDLE. It has been like that for a long time and i just noticed it today when the power usage went to 10% for a while and my temps were a lot lower and then after a few hours the power usage went back to 30%. Can someone help plz?

Solution
If i use it 144hz my gpu temp is almost 60°C when idle so i think I'll just use 60hz when idle and keep my temps down under 40°C

I just noticed it has something to do with the refresh rate. I just put my 144hz monitor to 60hz and the power consumption dropped to 10%. I could just use it 60hz when idle and change it to 144hz when gaming but it still would be nice to find solution that doesnt require changing refresh rate all the time.

That would make sense because it would have to pump out 144 frames every second which taxes the card more than 60hz. If you are fine with your system using a few more watts at idle, maybe about 10, then you can leave it at 144hz

Just found the solution guys!

All you have to do is download Nvidia inspector and do the following:

#1 Download NVIDIA Inspector and run it.
#2 Right click on the button that says "Show overclocking" and select "Multi Display Power Saver"
#3 Under the Target GPUs section check mark both GPUs.
#4 Check mark run multi display power saver at startup.
#5 Check mark activate full 3d by gpu usage and adjust the threshold to 20%.
#6 Close NVIDIA Inspector.
#7 Reboot PC.
#8 Check to see if clocks are running at lower speeds.

also, you may get a framerate issues when gaming, because the software will limit the power consumption, to avoid this, go to Nvidia control panel and then to Manage 3D settings, then change the power management mode to maximum performance, this will not impact your Idle power consumption but your games will run fine!

Hope this fixes your issue!

Can I have your children? This brought my idle temps down from 50C to the mid 30s. My room and I thank you.
