Hi!
Specs:
EVGA 1000W PSU
Asus Z97 - A motherboard
Intel i7 4790k CPU
PNY GTX 780TI GPU
8gb ram

Recently, got a power lost while playing league of legends.
Afterwards, whenever I launched overwatch or a gpu benchmark, my computer screen glitches out and freezes after a few sec and I have to force reboot my computer.

I've tried changing slots for my GPU on my motherboard and changing slots where it was connected on my PSU.

Other games that aren't GPU reliant such as league of legends are working just fine.

Any help trouble shooting? Am I wrong to think it is my GPU the issue?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

Sounds like you blew a capacitor or two of the GPU, although you have a decent PSU and MOBO which "SHOULD" protect from stuff like this, i blew my sapphire vapor X 7970's caps just by forcing the PC to shut down, that was with a $500+ asrock board and a nice PSU, so anything can happen, good news is a butane solder is like $5 and replacing caps is easy, just take the cooler off (few screws very easy) and have a look at the caps and the card

I don't have anything to prevent static, I'm a bit afraid of actually breaking the GPU. Is this a risk I should take? I can definitely get access to a welder from university.

Is that such a common thing that I should actually believe it is just a cap blown off or is it more of a blind guess?

Yes its common, not for them to do it for no reason, but after a power off such as yours and the symptons you are having it seems like thats what it is to me, its either that or damage to your motherboard, and no dont worry about the static, its fine to play with your card, just make sure you power the PC off from the wall and press the power button so it discharges any power left in the PSU, then you are good to go, you might be able to see the busted cap or some sort of damage without removing the cooler

Good. I'll unscrew the fans from the cards tomorrow and update you on it. I'll add screen shots if I'm not sure about the defect. Thanks for all help :)

Yea, I didn't express myself correctly.

The product was purchased on end of dec 2014. I'm currently contacting the PNY to see if I can claim a RMA (which I hope).
I'm pretty confident I could work this out on my own if I can't get it into RMA (electrical engineer student here hehe) , but before I do anything that might void the warranty, I'll check with them first. Thanks for all help. I'll make your comment as solution. :)

How long is a warranty usually on GPU?
I'll keep you updated

I got in contact with them. Apparently, my PNY GTX 780TI OC comes with a 1 year warranty, extended to a lifetime if product gets registered within 90 days of purchase.
Its been almost a year and a half and I wasn't aware of the extended warranty policy; I never registered my product.
I am still in talk with their technical assistance, and I'm hoping they would accept it for an RMA. Until I have a definite answer on the matter, I won't be trying to separate the cooler from the card, because that would void the warranty.

I'll keep my trash talking of the company for if they refuse to proceed the RMA. Until then, I still respect PNY.

Bad news.
I kept using my computer with the graphic card installed. As long as I didn't open up overwatch or a benchmark, everything was working good. Until it just crashed on me.
And now the card is done. I can't boot computer with it anymore. The only thing I can access is the Bios and I can clearly see some graphical glitches in the bios itself.

I removed the card and plugged one of my screens directly into the motherboard. I can't play any games, but the computer works fine.

Honestly, fuck the guy at PNY refusing to honor the warranty.

I'm confused (sorry). What do you mean by that?
That it is nearly confirmed blown caps?

I tried to see if I could find the broken part without removing the cooling system, but no. And there are a few stickers voiding the warranty if removed that on the screws.

Didn't they already deny you a replacement? So warranty is out of the question? whenever you decide to remove that cooler im 90% sure you will find a blown capacitor, and being an electrical engineer im sure it will be an easy task for you to swap it out

You are partially right about the warranty issue. But I have other motives. I'm going out on a trip from tomorrow morning until 10 days from now. I won't be anywhere near this computer.

As much as I want to believe it is just that simple, and I really hope it is, well, I'm not certain, and I'm no expert.

But I'm a believer. I have faith I can find people just like you, willing to help. Willing to share knowledge. Willing to promote good values.
And I believe I can find that same person in the technical service of PNY. If they want to get a part of the market, they have to work for it, and they have to show their expertise. They have to be willing to take the step further, and I believe that if it is that simple, even for myself, then it's peanuts for their technicians. I'm giving them a chance to be worth promoting their service around.
They have until I'm back to give me a positive answer. After that, I'll either become a fan, or become a hater. Especially if I manage to solve the issue afterwards (thanks to you!).

I'm too young to not have faith that there are good people. :^)
