How can I set this motherboard so that I can install Windows 10 on a 4tb hard drive? I've looked at the UEFI utility (accessible during bootup) and have absolutely no idea which settings to change. Thank you

Hi, Popatim: Thank you for your kindly and fast response. Can you tell me exactly where I would make those setting changes? In other words, can you tell me precisely how to get to those settings? I did not see anything in the UEFI Setup Utility called either "uefi mode" or "GPT partition style." The latter sounds exactly like what I need.

Basically in the bios of your motherboard if it is Uefi capable.

On some motherboards you have the option of CSM mode.
You can change the order of what hardware type for example for hard disk drives is set to for detection of them by the bios.

Uefi/ Legacy devices.
For when the system is first powered on or boots.

You then put your windows 10 install dvd in the dvd drive or usb flash drive with the windows 10 install image on it.
let setup load.

Choose custom install, or advanced drive options on the page where it asks you where or what hard drive you wish to install windows 10 too.

If used and the drive has partitions on it delete all of the partitions of the drive.
If the drive is new simply click on the drive and hi light it , and select format, selecting the GPT type of formatting.

Once done, simply click on next to install and setup windows 10 on the selected 4tb drive.

Hi, Shaun:
Thanks for the response. The motherboard is, I think, UEFI-capable. I think this because the place I'm tweaking before bootup is called the "UEFI setup utility." I don't see a CSM mode anywhere in the settings, though. I have picked "Custom" for the Windows 10 installation because I'm not installing over an earlier version of Windows. This is a fresh install. Once in Windows 10 installation, I did try to reformat, but, after clicking "Format," I am returned to the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen and, when I click on the 4tb hard drive, I still get the same message: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." I then deleted the drive and then clicked "New," at which point the installation disk formatted the drive in MBR, leaving half the drive "unallocated." There was no option at any time to choose "GPT."

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Hey there again, zaphod23!

Please make sure you got the latest SATA controller and Chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's official website. While on it, you should also check for any BIOS version/firmware updates because you might need to flash BIOS in order to boot from your new 4 TB HDD. A simple BIOS reset might also work.
I'd also suggest you check the tutorial I shared in my previous post and follow the step-by-step instructions there.
It will give you an idea on how to execute the procedure and successfully install Windows onto the 4TB hard drive.

Good luck! Keep us posted if you encounter any other issues! :)

Hi, All: I thought I would just check in with the solution. In the Bios, on the Exit tab, there is an option to "Save to UEFI Defaults." Always reluctant to click on something the effect of which I know nothing, but at wit's end, I clicked and then saved and exited. Lo and behold, Windows 10 finally installed on my GPT drive. The only downside is that Windows would only allow me to create a new partition out of only about half the hard drive. (I only needed about 100gb, not 2tb, on my OS (c) drive. I have no idea why this worked. Anyway, thanks for all the input and help. I actually think that the feedback on these forums led me to try stuff I might not have otherwise.
