EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC or AMD Raddeon R9 390

Solution

If you are not in a hurry, wait a few more days until AMD releases RX480. If the rumors of it's performance are confirmed with benchmarks, you'd be able to get a beast card for around 200 €. Again, if rumors are proven true, it should be near the level of R9 390X/ GTX980.

Hello,I would go for the GTX 970 with my eyes closed.
It has better lithography than R9 but 4GB's of VRAM, well to tell you the truth I don't think you will fill that amount of memory (4GB) ever.
+R9 and R7 users have some problems with GSOD (Grey screen of death).

Well, then R9 is kinda worth it. It has better architecture and more VRAM, though you can still pick the 970 for some reason, i prefer to chose 390 for another future upgrade (multiple monitors, crossfire, new system build).

Isn't dx 12 a huge issue for the 970 in the future ?

What are you talking about 970 supports dx 12.1, 390 doesn't + 390 is like a toaster. (TDP is 275W) I mean hell.
I don't REALLY see a reason to pick 390
If I missed something please correct me.
Crossfire does't really care Shadow_Blue cause he is getting one monitor so it's useless.

You were correct on the idle Watts 390 uses 111W and 970 uses 108W.
but on the full load thing I don t think so, 390 uses 394W and 970 uses 351W.
What do you mean 200W? My card is an HD series and uses 139Watts on full load.
You are telling me that +250Mhz core clock +7 GB's of Vram + 700Mhz of memory speed (I could really go forever)
adding all that equals to +60Watts? Nooooope

Well sorry then, 200w goes wrong, i just mispelled 300w, power consumption will vary depends on your system configuration. And i'm agreed with IMTECH, if you are not in hurry, wait for RX 480 with better performance and lower price.

According to rumors, yes. It should be near the level of a GTX 980. That's why I advise you to wait and check the user benchmarks for the truth. There are high chances that those rumors are going to be confirmed, so you might get a better card for less $.

Yes it is WAAAAY better than the 970.
It has x1.5 more core clock speed
8GB of VRAM instead of 4GB
14nm lithography instead of 28nm
And finally at the price of 200 euros.
If you can wait, definitely go for the RX480

That's a really vague comparison. There are going to be models with 4GB of VRAM as well as 8GB.

And as you can see I do recommend the 8GB model
