Hello,

I have the following system:

Antec Three Hundred Two
ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 970
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS
Dell 2408WFP monitor (1920 x 1200)
750W Be Quiet Dark Power Pro power supply
6 GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte EX58-UD4 motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 D0 processor
1 TB WD Black (WD1003FZEX)
Samsung SH-118BB DVD-ROM

I am looking to upgrade CPU, motherboard and RAM as these appear to be starting to lag behind current gaming requirements and I have read that Windows 10 has some issues with X58.

I am thinking of buying an i5 6500 and a Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 and getting 16 GB of RAM for install in time to upgrade to Windows 10 before it stops being free.

I'm not really interested in overclocking or multiple graphics cards, but would like something that gives good gaming performance for some time to come.

Does this seem like a sensible upgrade?

I'm a bit overwhelmed with the choice of motherboard. Are there any particular reasons to consider anything else? Overall, I've been happy with the Gigabyte one I've got.

Is there much to consider in my choice of RAM, considering I don't plan to overclock?

Is there anything else I should consider upgrading at this point? The PSU is quite old, but hasn't presented me with any problems.

I would appreciate any input!

if you dont intend to overclock and dont want to sli then get a h170 based mobo

not sure where you heard win 10 has issues with x58. i still rock a 920@3.6ghz on stock volts. which is fairly simple to do.
i also have it paired with a 970 so its fairly similar but i have the ud5 motherboard.

i know your not into overclocking but if you have the cooling its relatively simple
just bump the blclk to 166 turn the ram multi down to x6 or x8 and go through the rest of the timings changing them from auto to manual and copying the values already set by the motherboard on the left hand side of the lists into the manual settings boxes on the right.

your motherboards voltages may be slightly different to mine so use the 1 yours is set to by default.

I had a look on the Gigabyte website and noticed all the drivers for my motherboard are very old. I googled to see what other people had done and it appeared there were a few issues. I guess you'll always find something though! Did you do anything specific?
