Good morning,

I'm looking to build a server to host private games on and have friends connect to over the internet. Games like minecraft, world of warcraft, etc,
I do know how to build gaming computers, but have no clue what I'm looking for as far as a server build. I know that a server can have 2 cpus, need a ton of ram and doesn't require a gpu. Beyond that I'm unsure of what I'm looking for

I have a budget of 800 dollars, open to all suggestion builds, don't care if it's amd or intel. Looking for a build that will be good even with the newer games for hosting and server running. And that I won't have to upgrade for a while.

Solution
You won't need 2 Xeons for a 30 player server. As computersecurityguy said, save up a little extra for an E3-1231. Otherwise the build I gave you will be fine.

Here's what I got. You can upgrade to 64GB of RAM later. You've got yourself a good Xeon and some ECC memory. Also, feel free to use a different OS

And this build will be able to handle and process any server I host. I am unsure what games In full I'll be hosting at this point, 30 people max. Or should I look into maybe a dual cpu mobo?

While my finances will allow me to buy all the parts off the bat, I could put more into it if I just buy a couple pieces here and there.
And wouldn't I need a case with a bit more fan intake for heat?

Now what about storage, I have no clue what kind of storage imma have to do, should I just rack up the 500gb ssd drives, get a 4TB hdd, any suggestions on that?

Good catch. The E3-1231, which was later suggested, is a Haswell chip. The E3-1220 v5 is a Skylake chip though, and uses LGA 1151. Just go for what I suggested in my OP and you'll be golden.

That's good, but you don't need a H80i. Xeons don't run particularly hot. A hyper 212 evo will do the trick if you are desperate for a aftermarket cooler. Also a fairly large hard drive for backups would be a good shout.
