Hi,

I want to format a 32GB Kingston microSD as internal storage on my Moto G3.

However, it will not get past 30% formatted.

Any help appreciated.

The one I had was Class 10, so it should have worked. It shouldn't have failed to format.

I've run the testing software on it suggested by Shaun o above and I am sure now mine was a fake card. It only had 13.5gb of useable space (out of a supposed 32gb) and reached write speeds of 7.5mb/s (lower than the 10 mb/s a Class 10 card should do).

Mine did not come from Amazon directly but from a third party seller. I agree it is odd that yours would be fake coming from Amazon, but I suggest, since our problem is the same, running that software and seeing what results you get.

I have since gone down to PC World and got a SanDisk 16gb UHS-1 card for £7 and it works in my phone perfectly.
It will depend where you bought the 32Gb SD card from.

If you bought it from e bay for a very cheap price the chances are its a fake SD card.
And is no where near the 32 Gb storage capacity it states.

Ebay is rife with SD cards that do this where they fake the actual capacity the sd card displays.
alex.

You can tell this when you go to format the SD card and it stops at a set % when formatting the card.
So if you bought the card from e bay, and the price of it was very cheap indeed compared to if you bought it from a local phone shop ect, it will be fake.

Probably no more than 4 to 8 Gb`s in actual storage capacity.
There is an old saying, if the price looks too good to believe, over other cards of the same quoted storage capacity.
Then it usually is too good too good to believe, in other words something is not right or you are being coned.
And not getting the actual Item in question.

Fake.

you do realize not everyone who buys an SD card off EBAY get's them from someplace in china or Korea that sells them for 2 bucks right?

What are you on about?

That`s just the point they sell modified 2 and 4gb flash SD cards pretending to be 32gb capacity.
Often at a higher price.

Than it would of cost for a 2gb or 4gb stick.
And no it`s, not just because you buy one from china or where ever.
Jesus!

It did say something about "cannot format, bad something".

I've had enough of Amazon lately, everything from there has been faulty. Dead hard drives, dead graphics cards, faulty processors and motherboards...now bad SD. Will avoid in future

If you buy from third-party sellers who list their stuff on Amazon (which appears to be the case here) instead of directly from Amazon ("Fulfilled by Amazon") then Amazon has no control over what you receive, you get whatever the seller sends you and Amazon is merely a middleman for the transaction.

Having exact same problem on nearly the same card, also bought from Amazon. It works fine in both phone and PC if formatted as portable storage, which is what makes me think it is not a fake card. It only does not work when trying to format as internal storage in my android phone.
