Price comparisson:
1) dual e5-2670 used $140 (ebay)
2) supermicro motherboard with audio and USB 3.0 new $426 (superbiiz.com)
3) 32GB DDR3 ECC RAM used $60 (ebay)
Total $626

1) i7 5820K new $346 (micro center discounted cpu/mobo combo) (after tax)
2) X99 Asus motherboard new $227 (micro center cpu/mobo combo) (after tax)
3) 32GB DDR4 non ECC RAM new $150 (newegg)
Total $723

The price per pair of a used E5-2670 CPU and used DDR3 ECC RAM are cheap enough to make it viable to build a dual CPU workstation. Also it's about $97 cheaper than a single new i7-5820K on a brand new X99 motherboard plus brand new DDR4 RAM. The question that remains is how those two configurations compare in video editing, rendering, sculpting and texture baking which will be the main uses of the workstation. Thanks in advance!
