I have a Rampage IV Black Edition Motherboard with Supreme FX audio. I specifically asked them when I purchased it if the optical out supported 7.1 channels, I was told yes back then. Come to find out today that is not true, it is only 5.1. I just purchased an ASUS X99 Deluxe II motherboard, and come to find out today, that it too only supports 5.1 channels out on the optical and only supports 7.1 channels through analog connections. I also inquired about ASUS's Essence STX II high end sound card. Same problem, 7.1 analog, but 5.1 coaxial. The same situation is with the ASUS Strix RAID DLX, 7.1 analog and 5.1 digital. Is there any X99 motherboard by any mfg. that supports 7.1 audio out from the digital connection. And, if not, is there even a sound card available that supports 7.1 audio out from the digital connection? I use a receiver for my speaker connections and want to utilize all 7.1 channels that it supports.
