I'm about to build a desktop but my budget it's not the best so i had the genius idea of using my old laptop's HDD for storage.

But i'm now sure if i can use it without any problem, one of them is this one : http://www.ownta.com/images/detailed/HDD-2.5-500GB-MK5075GSX-Toshiba-2.jpg
as i said it is used, so it has some filles and windows Vista or windows 7 installed , i don't remember.

And the another one is also a 500gb 8mb cache hdd, from this laptop : http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-x552cl-intel-core-i5-3337u-1-8-ghz-15-6-1366x768-4gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-710m-1gb-500gb-5400rpm-hdd-windows-8-single-language-64-bit-notebook.html

Well, i want to know how can i use both of them in my build and i don't know , do i need to erase both of them? In total i will have 1TB of storage right? And when i "install" the hard drives will it count as 2 different hard drives or one? And what happen if i erase only the old toshiba's hdd and let the another one not erased ?

Thank you very much for your attention ! :) and sorry for my bad English !

You can use them both, they are both SATA drives. They will show up as 2 drives in windows. If you install them there is a chance your new computer will boot the operating system that is already installed. What is on the laptop drive? An operating system? Best thing will be to erase them both. You will have the opportunity to do this when you do a fresh windows install.

If you install them and turn on your new computer, Windows will boot from the drive which is higher in the boot priority list. Like I said, as long as there is nothing vital on those drives I would just erase them both during your fresh windows install.
