So basically last night my ethernet stopped working entirely.

Made sure it wasn't the router or cable first and then used
Windows diagnosis. It said there may be a problem with my ethernet adapter.

So I went to the store and bought a pci network adapter, installed that , disabled onboard lan in the bios and then booted up my computer. Installed the driver that came with the adapter. Restarted computer and no good. Still says no internet and windows diagnosis says the same thing.

Leds are green on both the network adapter and the router.

I am utterly stumped. Please help me get my Internet working again.

EDIT: tried a wifi card. Connected to the router but is not sending or receiving packets. Neither is ethernet but that doesn't even show I'm connected to my router.

Ipconfig doesn't show all the usual information.

Solution
if you connect another device like your phone over wifi, is it ok?Maybe your router is faulty. Try changing ethernet port on your router.

if in task manager>performance>ethernet not connected shows then only 2 reasons:
1.Ethernet connection is not there[check by connecting some other device like pc to your pc via ethernet]
2.Device is disabled or not working[check device manager]
