SATA II fast enough for an OS?

Hey, this might sound like a stupid question but I can't find much info on it specifically.

I'm building a system especially for Linux from some old parts. All is going well but I need to buy a hard drive. I've found some REALLY cheap SATA II drives but am wondering why they're so cheap?

Is SATA II mostly used for secondary storage? Or would it be fast enough to install an OS on? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm really uneducated when it comes to SATA version numbers!

Solution
A SATA II drive will work fine.

Usually SATA II drives have little cache like 8 or 16 MB compared to 64 or 128MB on SATA III drives.

I believe that SATA II drives haven't been produce in the last five+ years and, therefore, are either old stoke, used, or refurbished. The drives are most likely out of manufacturer warranty.

What is the size of the drive and what are you calling cheap?
