I'm planning on purchasing TP-Link N900 wifi card that requires a PCIe X1 slot, but my mobo doesn't have one. PCIe 2.0 x16 is the only open slot. I'd like to know if the wifi card works normally in a PCIe 2.0 slot. And does it have any effect on my system because i heard that it might slow down my GPU since 2 PCIe x16 slots are being used but i'm not sure if it's true. Thank you

Solution
The PCIe slots are backward compatible with the lower "x" level devices. You can install the x1 device in the x16 slot. No worries. You'll be fine.

It will not affect your GPU at all.

Have fun!
