PCI-E sleeved extension came without 6+2 split.

Hi, community!

I failed to find a specific category under which this problem would fall, but I couldn't find any "cabling" one. So here it goes.

I bought some sleeved cables as extensions to improve the inside appearance of my rig. It turns out that the PCI-E cables came with the 8-pin connector all in one. There's no clear cut split-up between the 6 normal pins and the 2 extra ones, and since my graphics card uses only 2x6-pin connectors, I can't plug them in yet.

I'd like to know if I can simply pick up a knife or saw and cut the 2 extra pins apart from the 6 that I need.

I'm sending a picture of the connector.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

no no, when you connect it, you can plug it in even though they are all connected. it'll just be hanging off the side of the pcie 6 pin connector on the graphics card, but still touching the 6 pin connector. i've done this before, just plug it in, it should be fine, it should only go in one way. the extra two pins will be on the side even though it's all connected, do you get what i'm trying to say? i don't how else to word it.

I wouldn't recommend doing it because you won't be able to get them back, but it won't affect the cable nor the functionality. 6+2 are essentially the same, just make sure you don't cut the wrong side or leave any exposed wires.

I think my wording was a bit bad XD I'm actually thinking of cutting only the plastic part of the "head" that holds the pins inside. I don't intend to damage the pins themselves or the wires [edit: this cut would be intended to make the connector look like a normally detatchable 6+2-pin one]. I wanted to make sure that there would be no connection inside that I would damage in case I wanted to cut only through the plastic. Is it okay then?

That's the problem exactly: they don't hang off the side. They came all stuck together in one big connector :-(

I know what you mean. However, that way, I think I'll be able to connect one of the two cables I need for my GPU, but not the other one, since the PCI-E connectors on the card are right next to each other. But I can try it.
