I was building my pc got passed the cpu,mb, and power supply. Then I needed my hard drive, I planned on getting the one from my old computer (which is a All-in-One), and then I found out the metal case is blocking it off from unscrewing it from the case. I am thinking of breaking it open(won't damage the HDD) or just buy a new one.
So I'm thinking if I can have the same OS and all the files return normally, if I put my old HDD in my new PC without having to install an OS because I don't want to pay another $100-200 for the same OS I already have. It might be a stupid question but I don't know too much about this stuff(hence why I ask ;). I am just wondering if I should buy a new HDD or just rip out my old one. I also do not have a Disc drive or so it would cost me even more if I do need one?
I did hear that you could put window 7 or something on a USB and I could just do it that way instead of the disc drive.

Solution
You should not need to break the old computer open.

Go online and look for the technical manual for your All-in-one. The technical manual should containg the instructions for removing the HDD.

Start with the manufacturer's website.

Suggest that you post the make and model your All-in-one. Maybe someone in this forum will know how the HDD can be removed.

And consider a SSD for your new computer build instead of a new HDD.

There's one major flaw with your plan that no one has yet mentioned. You can't just transfer a HDD with existing OS to a new computer and expect it to boot. It will not boot, it will only B.S.O.D. (blue screen of death) on you. Even if you do manage to make the necessary driver adjustments to get it to boot (will probably take weeks of work to accomplish) you'll then be greeted with Windows prompting you to buy a new license and re-activate it. That's right, Windows is locked to your hardware and is not transferrable. You have no choice but to spend the money for a new OS.

And as mentioned, for a new computer, you really should consider an SSD. Without one, you won't be taking full advantage of the new hardware.

Thanks for this response, clarifies some things i was wondering about! I will probably take your advice and buy a SDD. Also do you know If I can install the OS with USB, I don't own a Disc drive. I got a manual thing with the MB or Case (don't remember) and it said "buy windows and install it with a usb". So just wondering if that's possible?
