How can I get my netgear router to pick up my cell phone signal to use wireless router for home WiFi?

Solution
Are you talking about using your phone as a "hotspot" and then having your router rebroadcast so you can use it through your house, landline, etc?

You likely can't unless you are lucky and your router has support for your particular phone in tethered mode.

So problem number 1 is your router must be able to act as a wireless client to the hotspot on the phone. This is more of feature a repeater has than a router but there are some routers that can use a wireless signal as their wan connection but I don't think any netgears do.

Problem number 2 is for a device to connect to your hotspot in repeater mode it must support WDS. Most phone hotspots have disabled this feature because it is not actually part of any official standard. Many for whatever reason also limit the number of client devices so this causes issues for WDS even if it was supported.

Your only hope is going to be if you can load third party firmware on your router like dd-wrt. It still is not a simplistic configuration so you will have to learn quite a lot but there is a good chance you could get it to work but it will take a while if you do not have strong unix network command background.
