Hey guys,

I am swapping my old mother board with a new one i currently have the ASUS H81M-E and swapping it with the H97M-E and I was wondering what should i do so I do not lose files like uninstall the drivers before swapping it out etc. Thanks

If you're doing a fresh install, the state of the original drivers is of no consequence.

Swapping the motherboard sometimes, but not always, means a full reinstall of the OS.
A full reinstall = everything on that drive is wiped out.

So do I have to uninstall the drivers before swapping out the board and doing a fresh install?

Theres 2 general possibilities here:

1) You swap the motherboard out and it works just fine. In which case you were VERY lucky -- consider buying a lottery ticket or 2.

2) You swap the motherboard out and it doesnt work. This can range from refusing to boot, to a bsod loop, to just displaying a bunch of errors after windows starts.

as @USAFret said - "Prepare for doing a whole new OS install" if you are and #2 happens, then you have everything backed up, OS disk at hand, OS key handy, new drivers ready on a USB stick and links to all your software to be re-installed.
