So I'm not too sure if this is the right place to post about this but I'll give it a shot. about 2 years ago I had to format my pc due to some issues, while formatting it my PC gave me the option to do a backup of certain files. This wasn't the usual windows backup however, I had a prebuilt HP desktop at the time and I was changing the mobo and CPU on it.
After the parts were changed, the computer would fail to launch into windows since I hadn't done the system format yet. Right before the whole wipe there was some sort of a an HP backup tool that asked me if I wanted to backup some of my files on to a external drive. I went along with it and backed it up on one of my external drives then did the reformat.
Now the weird part. After the reformat I tried to recover the files but found that they weren't saved on the hard drive, at least in way that I could easily identify or recognize. I assumed for a little while that it didn't do the backup what so ever but was proven wrong when I realized that there was about 30GB of less space on the external drive. So my question is, is it possible to get my hands on those files and if so, how would I do it?
