Fioptics Gigabit Router + Modem + Internet but only ~40mbps on Wifi

I recently upgraded from TWC's 50mbps down and 5mbps up to Fioptics Gigabit and am very happy with the ethernet perfomance, but even while pressing my Note 5 against my router I am getting 35mbps down and 59mbps up on a 5ghz network. My router is the Asus RT-N66U and my modem is Zyxel vmg4381-b10a (provided by Fioptics, and it is a 2-in-1 with the router half disabled). On my computer, the ethernet performance is consistent around 850mbps down and 230mbps up at the same time of testing the wifi. What really confuses me is that when I plugged in my TP-LINK TL-WA801ND Wireless N300 AP I was getting 100mbps up and down (it was limited to 100 because of the Cat5 cable I was using). If anyone knows what I should try/look into then I would be thankful.

WiFi is VERY environment sensitive.
This is in my house. Not large 2 story. 75/75 fibre optic line.
Wired, Cat5e

Major difference, not too far away.
Try using the 2.4g band and see if you get different results or change the channel on your router. Wireless there are lots of things you can not see that affect the signals.

Your test results on your AP using a 802.11n router at the 300m setting are not realistic anyway. You might get that sitting on top of the router but 100m is well above what most the testing sites get when they test routers even when you look at maximum rates.

35m is on the low side. You should expect in the 60-80m range for a device using the so called 300m. Even if your note could run the 450m setting you should not expect much over 100m.

It almost has to be your phone though. The n66u has the best test results of almost any router that only uses 802.11n.

I'm not really sure what your problem is here, everything sounds normal.

Wireless isn't as fast as cabled ethernet. It's half-duplex by the very nature of wireless communication.
If you want faster speeds on your note 5, I'd suggest a dual-band wireless AC access point and allow only wireless AC devices on the network, along with minimizing interference from other sources of 2.4 and 5ghz wireless.

If you want faster speed on ethernet I can only suggest a gigabit switch.

Also holy cow, gigabit internet?
That must be fantastic. :3
Here I am with a 256kbps line.

I do have a gigabit switch powering my computers, but obviously that can't reach to my mobile devices in my house. I tested again with my Note 5 on 2.4ghz and 5ghz while touching the router and got 30mbps down and 69mbps up on 2.4ghz and 34mbps down and 85mbps up on 5ghz. I switched the wireless mode on my router to N only and moved my AP to channel 1 so now my 2.4ghz network is alone on channel 10 and I got 37down 80up on 2.4ghz and 32down 77up on 5ghz. I then tested with a mid-2010 Macbook Pro and got 46down 93up on 2.4ghz and 73down and 90up on 5ghz. I am so confused as to why this is happening. Also, during the tests the speed would fluctuate all the way down to 20mbps at points. I am looking into getting an AC router as I hate slow wifi.
