Computer locks up into windows function mode?

So recently I have been having a problem where sometimes randomly while playing games my computer enters a weird "mode", as I am going to call it, where every button I press performs a shortcut rather than function as a normal button. Hitting "r" opens run, my spacebar switches between keyboard input languages I have set up, and a whole other slew of shortcut keys I forgot to take note of. Bottom line, I can't type and every button I push just opens more windows and screws stuff up.

Now the first obvious thing I notice is these are all commands that normally function when being pressed while having the windows key held down. Everywhere I looked online points towards the possibility of my windows key being stuck, however this is not the case. My computer literally just enters a state randomly where every button i push is tied towards a windows function. the windows key is not being held down, and after dealing with this for a while I haven't found anything to fix the problem. One thing I did was I went onto my keyboards software and just completely disabled windows key. That didn't solve the problem either and I would still sometimes randomly enter this "mode". The only way I actually get out of this "mode" is by restarting the computer and hoping it wont happen again.

I have a steelseries m800 mechanical keyboard. Its been fine for me for a long time and I even tried switching keyboards once when my pc had another fit and toggled this wonderful problem on and switching keyboards did nothing.

And honestly this other guys problem sums up what im going through really well: http://superuser.com/questions/364597/windows-enters-horrible-shortcut-mode-where-every-key-triggers-an-action-why

To quote it so you all dont have to click the link: "Periodically, I hit some secret keyboard shortcut that causes windows to enter a super-duper shortcut mode where pressing e opens explorer, and nearly everything else does too. It's a bit like Windows-key lock mode. The only way to fix it is to restart the computer.

What is this mode, how did I get into it, and how do I get out of it?"

in this situation his windows key was also not getting stuck.
