I have total 3 WD Blue 1 TB internal hard disk and currently I'm using 1 of them. Other 2 is not connected to my PC because at this time I don't need them, they are on HDD tray but not connected with power and SATA cable. So, I was wondering how long they will be good in this condition ? For few days they were connected with my PC but when I realized that I don't need them at this time, I pulled the power and SATA cable. It's been almost 3 months they are in this state, should I remove and store them somewhere else or they will be fine inside my cabinet ?

Hi there vikbot,

I doubt that anyone could give you the right answer. Sometimes, HDDs could work for 5-10 years. On the other hand, they could fail in a week. You just need to back up your data.

Apart from that, in case you don't really want do use the drives now, my suggestion would be to take them out of the case. In the computer case, they could be exposed to more heat and vibrations.

doesnt matter where u keep them...as long as they are in a clean and pleasant environment, thr should not be any problem...though its recommended to store them separately if not in use...
i keep mine inside the cabinet and use maybe once in 6 to 8 months...

Don´t forget to use them every couple of months. Otherwise the grease in the bearing might harden out and then they will not spin up again at some point. This risk is higher when stored in a cold place.
