I just switched to xfinity Comcast for my internet service and because the modem I had was so old, they sent me their wireless gateway cable modem.
I installed it today but it is not giving me any internet access although I can connect to the network just found me through my laptop. There is also no internet line and the us/ds light is on but keeps blinking. I called Comcast and they made sure I had the cable , phone cord, and power cord properly installed (I did) and after attempting a hard reset, they are sending out a tech to my house to make sure it isn't anything outside.

Does anyone here have experience with this modem? I've never dealt with this kind of modem before where I had to hook up a coax cable and whats confusing me is I just had someone else tell me that I shouldn't have to have a phone cord installed with dsl filter if it's a cable modem so I tried without it and it still isn't working.

I'm just confused on whether this is a problem with the modem itself or something I did.

Do you have Xfinity phone service too? It is usually sold as part of their "Triple Play" package. If so, there is no need for the DSL filter and the phone cord from the gateway to your phone jack is to provide dial tone to your home phones. The POTs phone service should be turned and the line from your POTs service should be disconnected and the junction box. (there is a special name for the box that I don't remember) The filter shouldn't make any difference though. If you don't have Xfinity phone service then there is no need for a phone cord to the gateway and it should be disconnected unless Comcast says otherwise.

The gateway works like this. The coax from Comcast brings in the digital signal that carries video, internet and phones. The gateway handles translating these onto the various appropriate cables for the devices that will be attached by wire, such as phones, TV and computers. It also supplies wifi.

I assume you did a self install and it sounds like the wifi is working but there is no Internet. There is no way to know where the problem is so I don't know that there is much to be done while waiting for Comcast to show up. So unless others here on Tom's have an idea, just let Comcast handle it. That is what you pay them to do.

No we don't have phone service through them and the tech that is here right now just said we don't need the phone cord at all because of that.
Apparently the problem is there were no lines to the house or something to that effect so good news is I had hooked up everything okay on my end, bad news is I have to pay for their install. Thanks for the info though!
