Hello, recently I purchased a GTX 970 Strix.
During the installations I noticed that the Strix took an 8 pin connector. After a few bit of researching I concluded that a 6 pin is just fine. Now that I have installed the latest drivers and removed AMD's drivers, I start to freeze. These freezes happen randomly and usually resume from 10-40 seconds.
The game freezes, but I can still hear people in mumble. Before this GPU, I had a HD 7770.
My temps average around 40-45C while idle, and 60-65 while on load.

Here's my full spec list

FX-4100 (stock speed, Cryorig C7)
GA-M68MT-S2
8GB of Mushkin Ram
500GB Seagate HDD (OS, and stuff)
1TB WD HDD (Recordings/Games)
CX500M

That could maybe do the trick, and at $6-8 it is a nice cheap thing to try. Yeah, it could simply be the card is looking for power from two connectors that aren't supplying it. If you go this route, let us know how it works...add to the hive mind:)

Greetings!

Just a hunch, but I suspect the 6 pin may not be as fine as hoped. If you can test it with an 8 pin (maybe a friend's psu/system) you can see if there is a fault with the card under normal conditions which could at least rule out the gpu potentially.

Hope this helps!

Sadly my friends are all console players, I can probably buy a 6 pin to 8 pin cable.
