Hello, I recently got into Bitcoin Mining (by recently, I mean literally 2 hours ago), and I thought that using a Raspberry Pi 3 would be a bit more power efficient than using my computer which draws more power than a V8 running on high octane guzzolene produces. I know I will probably make very, very little Bitcoin off of it, but again, it's just for fun. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good mining software for the Pi, preferably some that can use the Pi's processor, and doesn't need an external USB miner or something like that. I was following a tutorial earlier, and they mentioned a miner called BFGMiner, but when I tried to go to their website, Chrome said there was malicious software or something along those lines, so I decided to drop that one. Any help is welcome.

Chrome is about right, there are a lot of viruses out there.
BFG miner is the one most use, as it sports Linux support as well as windows and mac.
From memory, I read up on this a while ago, and on average based on hashes created, a GTX 970 i7 Haswell PC would take roughly 40 years to mine a single block of bitcoin, which is 25 bitcoin. This works out to roughly 30c a day, when compared with power costs it is simply laughable.
A raspberry pi is possibly the worst possible device through which to mine bitcoin. Realistically it would take millenia.
Your phone could do it faster which is saying something.
Its a pointless venture which will just be a waste of money, even though its best to remain optimistic.
All in all, unless you have a beast of a server PC (even then it is EXTREMELY HARD to get a single bitcoin) or own a bitcoin farm (Thousands of top of the line bit coin dedicated devices running 24/7 in pools) there is very little reason to even dabble in the stuff. Power and time wasted in an effort which will most likely prove to be fruitless.
There's a reason why there isn't a Bitcoin category on this forum, and that's because nobody with consumer grade hardware really bothers with it because its such a silly prospect to achieve in the current market with all these multi-billion dollar dedicated bitcoin farms flooding the market.

Here is an article you can use as an example that i grabbed off google: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/chinas-biggest-secret-bitcoin-mine

I understand the futility of the situation, but I was thinking I get a decent portable USB solar panel, like a 15 volt solar panel, stick it in the window, connect it to a power bank, run the Pi off it and have it start mining as soon as it boots, so I never need to interact with it, and cry as I realize getting a job would pay better. Again, to add to the futility of the situation, I found a penny under my keyboard, which is probably more than I will ever EVER make on Bitcoin mining. Plus, the service I'm using estimates I will make about 0.00000019 Bitcoins a day. My computers graphics card has 2 physical GPUs in it, and I have the miner running off the second, so I can play games on the first. Once again, I know it's hopeless.

I own a snake and I thought maybe I could use the heat from the Pi under her tank for some extra warmth while I'm farming pennies an eon. I'm trying to squeeze all the use out of my dumb idea as I can

......I'm not going to assist someone on a venture this stupid..... sorry, I don't want you to waste time and money even though you're not serious about it.
