Hello everybody, a month ago I decided to buy 860k athlon now I want to overclock it but I never overclocked anything before. I need some guidance. First of all let me share the MoBo the PSU and the processor info. The mother board is Asrock Fm2a68m-dg 3+ and my PSU is deepcool de580 , as for my processor I use the stock cooler and I have temperature issues so im going to buy a cooler but I dont know what cooler to buy, many people use that 212 evo thing but I dont know so my question is what cooler you recommend me and how much I can overclock my processor as im going to buy RX 480 once its out?

Solution
If you can get the i7-6700K and the Asus extreme together GET THAT. It's one of the most powerful motherboards on the market.

If not, go for the Asus HERO. Another great board designed for gaming and overclocking.

Ok, so I looked some up a few things and technically yes you can overclock on that board. HOWEVER, it's not recommended at all. The problem is that the board itself is not built for overclocking, so you could easily blow a few VRMs out if your not very careful.

I decided to get a new configuration which is as follows : AMD FX-9370 / ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0, AM3+/AM3 (up to 140W), AMD 970 / DeepCool DE580, 580W, 120mm / WD 1 TB whatever HDD / Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO / x2 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Kingston HyperX Fury (HX316C10F/8) / RX 480 when it comes out in couple days. Any suggestion about this build ? I still wonder if i should go for i7 6700k.

Oh man, sorry to say this but that's one of the worst builds you can buy right now. The AMD FX-9370 is 4 years old now, an Intel core i7 6700k or 4790K would run circles around any of those "high end" AMD CPUs. If you truly want AMD wait until 2017 when Zen comes out.

For now, your best option is to buy a core i7 6700k like you said. It is the best CPU for gaming and overclocking.

Nope not at this time. The only other CPU in the $350ish range would be the i7-6800k, but that's an enthusiast grade CPU meaning you'll be spending double the amount for a motherboard and RAM compared to the 6700k. Plus that CPU is WAY overkill for your needs.

Yeah , perhaps ill get that 6700k for a 1440x900 gaming. Any mother boards you can recommend me for overclocking because i dont really understand the MoBo stuff. Somethings doenst doesnt cost more than 70-90 $

There are no motherboards that are good for overclocking at $90. Your looking at $120 roughly.

How about this, give me your max budget for all the parts you need, and I'll whip you up something. That usually works much better than the way were doing it now. :)

I switched to the i5-6600k because i was going over budget. HOWEVER, if your not doing any video editing, stream, or extremely heavy multitasking, a overclocked 6600K is still lightning fast. All the 6700K is is a core i5 with hyperthreading and some extra cache, that's it.

The motherboard is rock solid, excellent for overclocking.

I added an SSD because trust me you'll want it.

Also, I didn't add a computer case since I didn't see one in your other parts list. Did you need one? What do you like if so?

Hmm... Can we switch the Vengeance with 2x8 ? I dont mind spending like 100$ more as long as its effective. I probably wont stream, i for sure wont. Yet i want to be able to record videos but i think it will be good. About the SSD i dont really need it , i know they are waaay faster but i dont really mind slow loadings as long as the fps in games such as The Witcher 3 and other new games to run with good fps like 50-60 minimum on high-highest graphics on 1440x900
